Has Anxiety Got You Buzzing?
Anxiety often makes us feel heightened. Our body and mind get revved up, as though we are about to take off into space. When I experience anxiety, it often feels like an uncomfortable vibration high up in my chest, or like the air around me is charged with a frenzied energy. As an anxiety therapist, my clients often describe their experience of anxiety the same way.
That’s our nervous system’s flight response filling us with cortisol and adrenaline, pushing us to get up and run! When we’re dealing with chronic stress or trauma, we can feel that “get up” energy even when there is no obvious danger that we need to run away from. Grounding to gravity can be a wonderful antidote to all that heightened energy.
